Sea Urchin Vessel

Anubha Sood

425.00

The vessel is made of kelp, Ahimsa silk (naturally dyed with red kelp), cotton, and rattan sticks.

This handcrafted one-of-a-kind vessel uses fresh kelp made into yarn and woven into cloth. The undulated form is inspired by the creatures that live in a kelp forest. The vessel emanates the spiny sea urchins. Anubha sees these pieces as living organisms – the forms, structures, and smells of which all fluctuate in line with their environmental conditions. This aspect of the work is crucial to her practice as it involves confronting the inevitable impermanence of any living organism. It is the very nature of working with organic materials that they will change and slowly disintegrate with time.
