Flat thorn ladle spoon

Stuart Cairns

This spoon is made of a thorn branch, collected at North Down in Northern Ireland, and silver.

Part of the “Construction” series from Stuart Cairns that connects found objects with silver elements. By reimagining objects traditionally associated with silversmithing, such as vessels, utensils and tableware, he explores and investigates new possibilities by using a variety of found objects. These different contrasting combinations of materials, processes and constructions suggest their own stories, challenging the user’s experiences and memories.
